‘In design and technology pupils combine practical and technological skills with creative thinking to design and make products and systems that meet human needs. They learn to use current technologies and consider the impact of future technological developments. They learn to think creatively and intervene to improve the quality of life, solving problems as individuals and members of a team.’

Gifted and Talented
Whilst we aim to extend our Gifted and Talented students whilst making their individual products, in all year groups, our Gifted and Talented pupils also represent the school at some exciting competitions;
G&T – SWAN Engineering Event (yr9),
Rotary Technology Tournament (yr7, 8 &9),
Silverstone Innovation Centre Design Challenge (yr 7).
Rotary Club Young Chef (yr8, 9 & 10),
Stempoint Crest Awards Food Challenge
In 2008 students won the Construction Challenge at Danetre School.
Department Enrichment and Extra Curricular Activities
We like to maintain strong links with industry, groups of students spend focus days with current designers, in 2009 Emily Cummins (Young Designer of the Year) worked with students on Designing real life products using recycled materials. In November each year we run an Industry day for Year 9, where students work with visiting designers, or go to museums and Colleges related to their GCSE subject area. There are clubs and coursework support sessions afterschool and at lunchtime throughout the year, the school newsletter publishes the days and dates for these.
