The development of our students Social, Spiritual, Moral and Cultural (SMSC) understanding is a key priority of Guilsborough Multi Academy Trust. Governors, staff and parents of our school firmly believe that this is of fundamental importance to the wider development of our students.
As such Guilsborough Multi Academy Trust believes that all students should study a broad and balanced curriculum which provides them with the opportunity to develop their understanding of different societies, religions and cultures. Much of this will be taught through the humanities subjects (history, geography and religious studies) as well as through the PSHE curriculum. All subjects, however, contribute to the teaching, and the development of SMSC and this provision is clearly mapped out by the individual departments/areas of the Multi Academy Trust.
An understanding of moral issues is critical to the development of effective global citizens who are able to contribute to our wider society as a whole. The delivery of SMSC is at its most effective when the values and attitudes promoted by the staff provide a model of behaviour for the students and that this is then seen in the attitudes which the students display both to the staff and to each other. As such, all members of the Guilsborough Multi Academy Trust are expected to model these attributes at all times.
Our Academy values of learning, aspiration, respect and global citizenship support the development of the SMSC understanding of our students through-out the academy. Our tagline, “Learning Without Limits” ensures that all of our students, staff and parents understand how we work hard to reduce barriers that present themselves to us in order to ensure our students have every opportunity to make the best of their education.
