Our Curriculum 

The BTEC Sport course offers a wide range of knowledge about the sports industry as well as the human body in sport. This course draws on the passions and inquisitive nature of our students extending knowledge learnt at GCSE/BTEC Level 2, such as anatomy physiology, and introduces students to new concepts and skills, such as writing CV’s, leading practical sport and interviewing techniques. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Content 

The BTEC Level 3 Sport curriculum consists of four different units; Unit 1 – Anatomy and Physiology, Unit 2 – Fitness training and programming for Health, sport and well-being, Unit 4 – Professional development in the sports industry and one other from the optional units list

Compulsory units include:

Anatomy and Physiology for Sport and Exercise (90 minute external test)

Fitness training and programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (2 hour write up under exam conditions)

Professional development in the Sports Industry (internal assignment based work)

Optional units include (1 from these – internal assignment based work)

Fitness testing and training

Sports Psychology

Leadership in Sport

Practical – Team/Individual Sport

Is This Course Right For Me?

If you have a love for sport but don’t regularly participate then the BTEC Level 3 in Sport course is a practical, work-related vocational course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You can focus on a particular subject area and develop a range of specialist skills and knowledge related to this chosen topic. In addition to this you also deepen your understanding of the human body and how this is influenced by regularly activity. This qualification is equivalent to one A-level. When you have finished the course you can use it to go on and study further education – college or university or to assist you in gaining employment within the sports/leisure industry e.g. Coach/teacher, gym instructor.

Birmingham University – Sport, PE Coaching Science BSc (Hons) – BTEC sport considered – refer to University yearly.

Brighton University – Sport Coaching BSc (Hons) – DMM

University of Southampton – Physiotherapy BSc (Hons) - AAA or DDD at BTEC Level 3 with Science A Level.

Sheffield Hallam University – Physiotherapy BSc (Hons) –D at BTEC Level 3.

University of Bedfordshire – Sport and Physical Education BA (Hons) – 280 points including 2 passes at GCSE/BTEC Level 3 (DMM)

University of Staffordshire – Sports Studies BA (Hons) – 122 points from A level or BTEC Level 3 DMM.
