Art Department Impresses at Open Evening & Year 6 Taster Sessions
We are thrilled to celebrate the success of our recent events at Guilsborough Academy, where the Art Department played a leading role in crafting unforgettable experiences for our prospective students and their families.
During our Open Evening on Thursday 5th October, the Art Department introduced an interactive art installation inspired by the world-renowned Yayoi Kusama’s Obliteration Room. In Kusama’s version, a plain white room is gradually transformed as visitors place colourful stickers on every surface, creating a stunning explosion of colour. We recreated this concept for our guests, starting with a blank canvas and inviting everyone to participate in the transformation by adding their own colourful stickers. The result was breathtaking—a display alive with hundreds of vibrant spots that showcased the creativity and enthusiasm of our visitors. We were thrilled with the response and delighted to see so many people of all ages engage with the installation.
On Tuesday, 8th October, we welcomed Year 6 students for Taster sessions, offering them a glimpse into what makes our art curriculum so unique. The students took part in a hands-on workshop where they created beautiful collage animals, inspired by the playful, textural work of artist Sally Payne. Each student’s creation was mounted on a stand, allowing them to proudly take their artwork home as a keepsake and display it with pride. It was fantastic to see their imaginations come to life through this project, and we look forward to seeing some of these budding artists continue to develop their talents with us.
If you missed the Open Evening or our Year 6 taster day, don’t worry—there are still spaces available for upcoming taster sessions! We’d love for you to join us and explore everything our vibrant art department has to offer.
