Rail Safe Friendly Celebrates Two Years of Promoting Rail Safety

At Guilsborough Academy, rail safety is an issue close to our hearts, made even more poignant by the memory of Harrison Ballantyne, a much-loved student who tragically lost his life in a railway accident. His passing was a devastating loss, but his memory continues to inspire important conversations about rail safety.

In honour of Harrison and to help prevent future tragedies, we are proud to support Rail Safe Friendly (RSF) - a programme dedicated to educating young people on how to stay safe around the railway. This month, RSF celebrates its two-year anniversary, marking a significant milestone in its mission to make rail safety education a standard part of every school’s curriculum.

The vision of Rail Safe Friendly is simple yet powerful: every child should be equipped with the essential knowledge to navigate the railway environment safely. Since its launch in 2022, the programme has worked closely with schools to provide free educational resources, interactive lessons, and expert guidance to help young people understand the importance of rail safety.

RSF has set an ambitious target for the future - to have every school in the UK enrolled in the programme by 2027. By achieving this goal, they hope to ensure that all students receive vital safety education that could save lives.

To commemorate the occasion, Year 11 student, Brooke, and Head of Year 11, Miss Ayrton, sat down with Stuart Heaton, RSF’s Founder and Managing Director, to discuss the programme’s journey, achievements, and how the Rail Safe Friendly logo is an important symbol of the programme’s mission.

But how did it come to be? Find out more about its origins in RSF’s most recent blog article:

To further mark this important milestone, RSF will be sharing soundbites from the interview with Brooke and Miss Ayrton across their social media channels over the coming weeks. Be sure to keep an eye out for insights and reflections from the RSF team as they continue their mission to make rail safety education accessible to all.
