In DT students will rotate around 4 subject areas and IT during the year. Students spend approximately 7 weeks in each subject area. Central to each of the DT subjects is Design. As they move around the material areas students will focus on different aspects of the design assessment strand. Understanding what a Design Brief is, learning how to design for a specific user’s needs, whilst learning different drawing skills. Electronics: Students will make a handheld fan. They will design their unique fan shape inspired by the shapes and patterns found in nature – Biomimicry. They will shape their plastic casing and solder their circuit board. Students will be developing their basic cooking skills along with their awareness of Food Hygiene and Safety. We look at eating a healthy balanced diet and ways of incorporating more vegetables into our meals. |
During each rotation students will be assessed on Design work, Homework and their Product outcome

Term 1 - Ancient Origins
Students explore a range of classical texts from across the ancient world, from Gilgamesh to The Iliad. They also consider the influence of classical legends on the stories in the Bible, as a text which is foundational for much of the literature students go onto study.
Students will focus on key ideas such as: creation; heroism; bravery; power and abuse of power; the supernatural; human limitations.
