Students continue to work on their coursework, Portfolio Unit 01 of the GCSE, worth 60%, entitled ‘Twisting and Turning’. Students will be given workshops in different media in these terms to encourage them to continue to develop their own styles. Within the Portfolio students are being encouraged to investigate a minimum of two themes. The first theme should be completed, we will be working on completing this with a mini ‘final piece’. In terms 5+6 the second theme will be worked on – this will need to be completed by October (in Year 11). |

Until July 1st students will continue with their practice NEA project – Alarm Systems From July 1st students will be working on their actual NEA project which will form 50% of their final coursework grade. In the three weeks up to the end of term students will complete their research and write their design brief. They will be set work to complete over the summer holidays. |
When students begin work on their real NEA they will receive general feedback in line with the examboard guidance. Each section will be marked at the end of it’s completion and students will be given feedback on the markband that they are working in. One to one feedback on how to improve work is prohibited by the examboad, however exemplar materials are made available to students whilst completing the NEA. |

Food and Nutrition students will be focussing on Food Provenance – how we grow, rear and catch our food.
This includes Global food production, how it impacts the environment and how the environment and it’s changing weather patterns affects our food security. As part of this topic we also look at food packaging, why we use it, what is necessary and it’s impact on the environment. W We will continue to look at the primary and secondary processing of food –with a focus on preserving.
In the practical part of the course we look at British food traditions. Students will have the option of making dishes which require basic, intermediate and high-level skills. As a trial this term students are given the opportunity to select their own dishes for their practical lessons as long as they meet the skills criteria for that individual cook. All dates, recipes and criteria for individual cooks are on Go4Schools in their homework area. Recipes to choose from are on their TEAMS class area |
In line with the school marking policy students will receive feedback on their written work every 6 lessons. They will complete an exam question and at the end of the module will have an end of topic test on Food Provenance. Students will begin their controlled assessment and this will be their main focus for the rest of the year. By the end of term 6 students should have selected their contextual challenge, and completed both their research and their specification in preparation to start their design ideas on their return to school in September. |

Students are starting their Sustained Project (coursework) that is worth 60% of their overall GCSE. The theme they are focussing on is “Animals & Insects”. Students will spend Term 5 & 6 looking at insects specifically, creating observational drawings, experimenting with pattern and shape using a variety of mixed media. They will look at Rosalind Monks, Nigel Cheney and Sophie Standing, analysing their work and creating studies & samples in the style of their work. Students will be actively encouraged to look at other artists & designers to add to their portfolio. Students will also build up their printing and dyeing skills, looking at ways of using natural materials to dye fabrics. They will be required to create regular personal outcomes of their animals and insects’ studies throughout the project. They will continue this project into Year 11. |
